"Sunburst Kennels Perm. Reg'd"
"Our History"
For the past thirty five years I have bred
and shown toy dogs to their championships fulfilling a lifelong
dream.
I started out breeding Pomeranians in
1970 with the help of Mary Allen, who had bred and shown poms in
England under Windyhull Kennels. She started me out with a pair
of show females and took me to all the shows in Alberta. She
showed me how to groom and present my dogs. All my bloodlines
at the beginning came from England. Hadleigh, Andersley, Jobaki
and of course Windyhull.
In 1984 I decided to take on another
breed in the toy group, as I was thinking seriously of going for
my judges papers. I felt hands on experience with these more
difficult coat care dogs would be an asset. My second breed
was Maltese and I was having so much fun with them, I took on
Shih Tzus, Pekingese and Pugs. I showed all but the Pekingese at
that time.
In 1989 I moved back to Ontario having
to give up most of my dogs. At this time I showed one of my
poms Whiskey at the specialties. He soon went back out west with
the remainder of my dogs, as I had to work full time and felt I
couldn't do both being on my own.
Ten years ago I met this wonderful man David, who
I married a year later. He had no experience with dogs but loved
my Shih Tzu Cherie. We decided to get back into dogs as I missed
them terribly. I managed to retrieve some of my Pomeranian bloodlines from
the west and started breeding and showing again. I really missed
my Pekingese at this point and really wanted to show and breed
these delightful dogs. With the help of Nellie Kaye in BC who
sold us "CH Baizana Dragon Fly's KoKo Puff", Diane Stepple for "Ch Lionshadow Kathlynn Of Pirhls", Rosemarie & Wolf Besser for "Kantung Aramis" and last but not least Martha and Rita
Baizana for our "Baizana LiJi Dang At Sunburst". Without the
support of these fine people, we could not have had our second chance
with our Pekes.
We want to thank everyone who over the
years has made my lifelong dream come true. Sincerely, Karen
